Apple Developer Provisioning certification, the "program portal" and why isnt it a link anyway?

Sometimes the economies of scale at a corporation reach such unmanageable size and scope that the entire thing just spins on down the road running on its ambient steam. Some people will notice, some will notice AND care, but mostly the fiefdoms of middle managers will be threatened and so nothing of the troubles that accost a business process in these times of overwhelming growth and underwhelming management will actually get fed into a business process review cycle.

In order to actually test an application on an iphone, you have to get yourself authorized with a PKI certificate. While most of the web pages on apple sites are cross-linked and hyper-referenced every which way, there is one place on the site that does not get equal treatment in this regard. For some reason, everytime the "iphone developer portal" is referenced, it is not as a link. This link is critical in accompishing the task of getting yourself and your device provisioned for developing software, as the uncracked OS will not allow unsigned apps to execute.

This of course makes it a very nice paperweight, from a development point of view.

All of the following links were required to just figure out what I was actually supposed to be doing - let alone the inability to actually do it. Just for the record I am an early adopter and was on the ADC site before they were even ready I think. There were issues with my account in April. I wonder if there are more flavors of growth still to be found.

Here and Here and Here and Here is finally enough information to figure out that Apple appears to be missing the mark on this entire process.

I finally gave up and sent a request to developer technical support asking why the "program portal" is so necessary and yet it is not inserted as a link everywhere it is mentioned.

This goes with the idea of keeping an NDA on everyone who got the SDK. They actually think they can protect themselves from R.I.M. engineering staff! I have been in the R&D labs in ottowa, and Apple should listen to me on this : the only way you will stay ahead of RIM is spending time and money innovating, not trying to impede them. You spend energy trying to slow them down and all you do is waste energy better spent improving existing art and generating new science.

UPS - no longer trustworthy

I moved recently to tampa bay from Chicago. When I got an address I had a friend of mine ship my belongings to me using UPS.

That was a serious mistake in judgement apparently, as UPS has fallen off the customer care ladder and is run entirely on the premise that anyone who makes an insurance claim is attempting to commit fraud.

They damaged my 1600 dollar tv, and as of this writing are doing everything they can to stonewall and deny their contractual obligation based on paid for insurance.

DO NOT SHIP ANYTHING WITH UPS!

They dropped the TV, packaged in its original manufacturers packaging, so hard that the styrofoam pieces on the inside were completely shattered, and a quarter inch half moon dent on the side of the TV makes it look like someone hit it with a lead pipe.

The 1:10:100 rule is an old customer service saying. It means when one person is unhappy, they tell ten people, who then tell a hundred more. I am telling all of you, DO NOT SHIP USING UPS.

Your items will NOT be treated as they should be, you WILL recieve damaged goods, and when you try to avail yourself of the insurance you PAID for, they will NOT honor their contractual obligations and instead do everything they can to get out of paying for their horrible and unprofessional work.

Oh but it gets better!

The woman who called me back would not listen, talked over me, and when I refused to be compliant and docile hung up on me.

I'm waiting to hear back from them to file a special complaint on that one. From the research online and exemplified in the above link, I dont expect them to follow through on anything that might actually help this company get its head out of its ass.

The people on the national line are all very friendly and helpful, and had someone locally call me to arrange to have my TV picked up and taken somewhere to be "inspected" for damages.

One wonders what exact technical skills, tools and abilities these so called inspectors have on hand to determine wether or not the giant and delicate 40 inch LCD screen or any of the other electronics in the TV have been damaged by the horrendous and unprofessional treatement by UPS. One can very easily assume that said "inspectors" have no such skills, tools or abilities and will do nothing more than LOOK at it.

And yet UPS insists that they have to come and get my TV and take it to their inspectors location. Am I too believe that this time they will take better care of my TV? Am I to believe that this time, now that the internal styrofoam protectors are all destroyed from the last time the TV was touched by UPS, my TV will not be FURTHER harmed by these people?

And finally - I am supposed to let these unprofessional and proven incompetant people take my TV into their posession again without any form of collateral, and that MAYBE they will cut a check for me IF they decide based on "inspection"? What is the process for *IF* they decide not to honor their contractual obligations based on PAID for insurance?

When the call went out for volunteers to assist with setup and such I of course responded, with one caveat : I would not be available during RP book signing. I arrived in minneapolis at midnight on the 31st to a voicemail from someone with the CFL, asking if I could volunteer between noon and 4 pm - the exact time of RP book signing. I slept in the airport that evening having arrived so late. At 7 am the plain clothes cops wanted to know what I was doing, and asked for my ID and interrogated me as to me purpose in the airport.

I left the airport and headed downtown via the tram. The entire area was swarming with police. Two at a time they got on and off the tram, waking through each of the two car sections between stops and then disembarking again. Arriving in downtown, the situation is even worse on the streets. There are packs of police, some at corners in groups of five to eight, some roaming the streets in fours. Not a single place I went the entire time I was in minneapolis did not have a ridiculous police presence.

It was more like nazi germany than the United States of America. I attempted to contact the person from C4L to tell them I would be unable to assist that day and ask if I could help somewhere/somewhen else. I think she said something about helping at the target center and to meet someone outside.

So, I wandered around the target center looking for a way in. Tried the doors, all locked. Cant get ahold of anyone, and then my phone begins its low battery phase. Ruh Roh, Reorge - I appear to have forgotten my charger.

No traction, so I gave up and retreated to the starbucks across the street to regroup and vent a little bit online.

Starbucks. Sitting in the starbucks cracking wise with the baristers, I happened to over hear a couple of guys talking about getting to the concert later that evening, and had to talk to them. John and Jack are old friends, and it was my great fortune to have met them and walked the path of true patriots in defense of the Constitution with these two patriots.

Installed a copy of Vista Ultimate. Flawless. Rates a 5.0 overall and 5.9 on the graphics. Runs fully 64 bit.

As machines go, this one is exceptional. They do get hot tho.

MacBook Pro, iPhone and me

Well I have decided to focus entirely on iphone development. With an estimated 28% market share in the first eight months of its release I believe as long as Jobs is in the drivers seat and in control of the vision and its execution, this device will be the next reference platform for mobile computing environments. Not quite convergent just yet, but certainly yanking the telecom industry in the right direction.

They need a lot of yanking - telecom is run by aged dinosaurs with very little vision or execution ability beyond the cash cow ideal. I am awaiting the release of the rumored 3G capable iphone before I get one, but the SDK will do just fine in the short term for learning curve purposes.

So far I am very happy with the new laptop, its fast and clean and the brushed metal aluminum casing is well just me.

.. so why is it that anyone running for a public office must submit to such questions? How does it make any sense that something an individual in private enterprise could sue for being asked is not just asked but required disclosure on the part of oh lets say presidential candidates.

The idea that if a man or woman doesn't believe in an invisible, untouchable, incommunicado super-being living in some alter-plane in the sky makes them unsuitable for public service is an utterly unreasonable position to take.

But wait theres more. The "public" requires candidates to disclose their religious beliefs, but if any one of those candidates said anything even approximating "God told me f(x)", they would be summarily removed from consideration. You have to say you believe like we do, but don't even begin to tell us God speaks to you directly.

There are only two policies that really matter in the governance of a free market and free people, following my thoughts from nicomachean ethics. One is foreign policy and the other domestic policy. These two process pipelines are the base of all other related virtual human organizational structures, and their base is the constitution. The preamble, constitution and bill of rights constitute the syntax with which subsequent required operational processes are written, as exceptions and progress within the human congress evolve our perception of "what is good?" and thus require amendment.

When these two policies are corrupted by influences whose goals and aims are not that of the normative answer of the will of this free people - the collective answer to the question "what is good?" - these influences accomplish several things.

Firstly, they usurp the power of Adam smiths' invisible hand, his analogy of the amalgamate of a productive free people operating in a free market. The usurp the power that comes from the magnifying effect of hard working human beings - this incredible wealth - and proceed to pursue their goals and aims firmly saddled on their new steed. Their goals and aims? More Power.

By the act of yoking the populace, the second thing they accomplish is to make the hand visible and by default, the third thing they do, and must do, to succeed in this coup of the human spirit is to hide the hand from the people who own it.

Real news is delivered without personal commentary, without glib jibes and cute turns of phrase for the sole purpose of achieving pedantic overjoy within the posters ego. Real news is a relaying of facts-as-known by reporters. Conclusions are to be left to the audience, as it is they who ultimately decide who what when where why and how in the long run.

I am just old enough to remember real journalism on television. Where they said this is what happened. this is when. this is where. this is who. this is how. This what we are told is why.

I'll just look closely in this at the use of cell phones by passenger aircraft operating at speeds above stall. The idea that cellphones can be used on such vehicles is ludicrous in a concrete and unarguable sense. Physics is very clear.

First, lets review how cellular networks are built. From a topological standpoint, cell towers are placed in such a way as to maximize coverage of related pops while minimizing the number of towers as a function of K, a variable used to describe the closest minimum distance the same carrier frequency can be reused in a 3 sector cell site pattern. This means we place towers and the three transmitting elements in such a way as to maximize the (ridiculously) expensive spectrum utilization, and we point the antennas DOWN at the GROUND - where the CUSTOMERS are - you know those people who help them recoup the cost of 200,o00$ cellsites, 15 billion dollar frequencies and a loaded cost of roughly 25k$ a month to operate and maintain.

Second, we take into account primary, secondary and tertiary roadways - emphasis on the mobile portion of the mobile phone dictates economically that we ensure that the roadways are covered.

Thirdly an entire other world of data is fed in from sales and marketing, and the cell sites priorities and build plans and entire process for the continual expansion of a cellular network are scheduled and then implemented, then the whole cycle repeats again.

I keep searching for an anti-Ron Paul blog or article or something that isn't clearly written by authors with premeditated and intentionally negative spin views to accost anyone unfortunate enough to go near their sites.

I would like articles or blogs that treat the issues and positions of the man in a heartfelt and earnest counterpoint, something real with which to argue positions. All I find are useless pieces from the likes of Tom Roeser, and things like this elephant guy - purile nonsense I would expect in tabloids at the checkout stand. Nothing there even remotely intelligent, just brainwashed close minded trash of Orwellian proportion. On a side note, I am sure the two of them thoroughly enjoy admiring each others fallacies.

Then I realize the reason I cant find anything substantive in terms of argument to the issues is that nobody intelligent can really argue with Dr. Pauls positions - they come from the law of the land.

Wouldnt it be great if all our elder statesman were like Dr. Paul - vital, energetic, impassioned and wise? instead of like Tom Roeser - burnt out, used up, and in the dust.

Left Alaska in the early 90s. Told all the "authority" figures that the country was corrupt, that the US corporation had been usurped by an oligarchy. They didnt listen, of course.
